In ancient Greece, olive leaves bore strong symbolism: Olympic Games winners were crowned with olive leaves as a sign of victory. The Romans, on the other hand, traditionally used the leaves in infusions for their medicinal properties. In the 19th century, olive leaves were used to combat malaria, and during World War II, British soldiers in North Africa used them to treat malaria thanks to their active component, oleuropein. This traditional use has been passed down through the centuries in Spain, Italy, France, Greece, Israel, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, and Africa, making the olive leaf one of the most revered plant remedies in history.

Benefits of olive leaves

• High blood pressure: They help regulate blood pressure, potentially due to oleuropein, and can alleviate symptoms such as dizziness and headaches.

• Diabetes and cholesterol: They help regulate blood sugar levels and reduce bad cholesterol due to their antioxidant action.

PTo prepare an infusion, it is generally recommended to make a decoction with about 2 to 5 g of dried leaves per cup of boiling water, allowing it to steep for 5 to 10 minutes before straining. This herbal tea can be consumed 2 to 4 times a day, optionally sweetened with honey or flavored with lemon.
